It is likely that the place named Xozan, referred to as a provincial or principality center in the 9th to 11th centuries, is being referred to. In the 16th century, in the village that was a district center, the tomb of Ferruhşad Bey, who was the Bey of Çemişgezek, is visited as a saint's shrine. Now, the old settlement has been abandoned and a new village has been established. Its hamlets: Aşağı Bayır (Aşağı Peydere), Cevizli Dere, Çaybağı, Reşo, Üvünlü (Reşoğlu), Yukarı Bayır (Yukarı Peydere).
